DESCRIPTION:Perennial Park is partnering with WellWise Area Agency on Aging to offer our Connection Cafe series! Once a month there will be a different topic and it will give people a chance to socialize and meet new people. Connection Cafe will be offered every 3rd Wednesday from 1-2pm. \nRSVP by calling WellWise Area Agency on Aging at 517-592-1974. Walk-ins are also welcome to join in on the conversation! \nWe do suggest coming for Congregate Lunch if you are able to by 12:30pm. The suggested donation for lunch is $5 for those 60 and over and $6 for those under 60. \nIf you have any questions\, feel free to call the Center as well at 517-437-2422. DESCRIPTION:Throughout August\, Perennial Park will be offering Lunch & Learn: Detect\, Prevent\, and Respond to Elder Abuse. Every Tuesday in August from noon-1pm\, there will be different speakers to cover topics pertaining to elder abuse and how to protect yourself and others before and after it happens!During this 4-week series of Lunch & Learns\, you will be educated on how to detect the signs of elder abuse\, how to prevent it from happening to you or a loved one\, and how to respond to it if it is has occurred.By attending each session\, you enter into a raffle to win some sweet prizes including a $150 gift card to Meijer! The more sessions attended\, the more entries into the raffle.Series Sessions Schedule:Tuesday\, August 4th – Martha York and Ashlee Griffes from WellWise Services Area Agency on Aging will be presenting on what elder abuse is as well as covering ways that their organization can help\, with programs like Safe Haven.Tuesday\, August 11th – Danna Woolsey from County National Bank will be covering how to protect yourself and others from financial abuse. She will cover fraud\, scams\, and financial exploitation and how you can combat them!Tuesday\, August 18th – Sarita Puri from disAbility Connections – Jackson MI will be talking about protecting those in the community who are more vulnerable\, such as those with disabilities. DESCRIPTION:We have transitioned our SAFE+ program to SAFE as Prevention! \nStop by the Center to meet with our program coordinator\, Cynthia Li-Garmany! She will be here every Wednesday from 10am-3pm to help you fight back against financial abuse and exploitation. DESCRIPTION:Perennial Park has added a new\, fun activity to the Center!\n\n\n\nWe are now offering Rendever: VR Connections! It is a virtual reality experience for older adults. Come check it out on Mondays\, Tuesdays\, and Wednesdays from 1-2 p.m. in the Computer Lab!\n\n\n\nExperience the world like never before! Rendever brings immersive virtual reality experiences to seniors\, enabling travel\, exploration\, and meaningful connections.\n\n\n\nRendever\, a virtual reality (VR) experience for older adults\, is an evidence-based program designed to overcome social isolation through the power of positive\, shared experiences. Supported by the National Institute on Aging and the National Academy of Medicine\, Rendever has more than 20 clinical studies demonstrating its ability to connect people to the world through an individualized or shared immersive experience.\n\n\n\nActivities include:\n– Revistiting meaningful memories\, including national sites\, virtual walking tours\, and guided meditation.\n– Activity guides educate and offer travel experiences in arts and entertainment\, culture\, nature\, adventure\, and athletics.\n– Leveled programs support sensitivity for those new to the VR experience.\n\n\n\nBringing this program to the Center was made possible by a grant through the Michigan Association of Senior Centers and Molina Healthcare!
